St. Mary's Parish Council Minutes

October 2,2014
Members present:
Rita Clasemann, Alice Oehrlein, Deb Mork, Cathy Fuchs, John
Weepie, Sue Grabowski, Pat Kaiser, Danna Woods, Jim Boster, Gail Sorensen, Kris Paulson, and
Gayla Olson. Not present were Gene Stifter, Helen Campbell and Stan Kuchar.

Meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by Rita, who led us in prayer.
July 10 minutes were amended: Seal coating and striping of parking lots was done by
Preferred Seal at a cost of$4350 for St. Mary's and $2795 for St. Kathryn's

Old Business
A. Summer repair projects were completed.
B. Rita reported on the Fall Festival:
Income: $8858.20
Expenses (including items for raffle): $2265.14
The festival committee met on October 1,2014 to evaluate the 2014 Fall Festival.
C. Wind damage occurred on September 3,2014. Insurance claims have been filed.
Construction work will be done by Brian Kostreba of Kostreba Tuckpointing & Roofing
of Rice, MN. The entire roof will be replaced with insurance coving half of it.
Insurance will make an allowance for the 205 hrs. of volunteer clean up. The handicap
parking sign which was damaged has been replaced and the stumps have been ground.
The replacement pieces for the parish center roof must be manufactured and installed.
D. Gayla Olson will be the new Parish Council Secretary.
E. Rita reported on the progress we are making toward our Parish Goals. Parishioners
have received the bulletin insert introducing them to the Parish Paparazzi Bulletin
Board. More parishioners representing varied age groups have signed up to be Mass
servers and lectors. The October work group helped to host a welcome reception
for new members on Sunday, October 5. We will take pictures to use on the parish
bulletin board.
F. Fifty people have signed up for the Fall Small Groups to study The Book of James.

New Business
A. Hunter's Masses will be November 8th and 15th at 8:00 pm at St. Kathryn's. The
Hunter's Spaghetti Supper will be at 6:00 pm on the 15th at St. Mary's.
B. All Saints' and All Souls' Day Masses will be celebrated on November 1 & 2.
Because they both fall on the weekend there will be no additional Masses.
Mass is at St. Mary's at 8:30 am.
D. Holiday Fair has been changed back to Friday Dec. 6.

Committee Reports:
A. Liturgy - Kris Mass for Deceased KC members - Nov. 5. Advent Penance
Services are on Wednesday Dec. 17 at 7:00 pm at St. Mary's and Sunday Dec. 21
at 7:00 at St. Kathryn's.
B. Faith Formation - Sue submitted a complete report including information on
RE,
Sunday School, Reconciliation prep., Youth masses, Friday Fun Days, Service
projects and a list of all RE teachers, many of which are new. Her report also explains RE
changes for next year. We will start a Family Faith Formation Program resulting in
no more release time for elementary age students. Changes will also be made in the
confirmation program. The junior high program will remain the same. An end of
year meeting will be planned to inform families of these changes.

C. Financial
1. First quarter reports were received and reviewed.
2. Rita reported the current balances as:

Capital Improvements $8,211.96
Cemetery Checking $3,947.88
Cemetery savings (CD) $7,307.81

Memorial fund $2,685.71
D. Building and Maintenance - Jim Boster
1. Basement needs repairs again due to moisture.
2. Front door need to be refinished with something that will resist ultra violet
rays.
3. Men have reseeded where the stumps were removed.
E. Social Concerns - Rita
1. Fall Festival: Roast com raised $133 for A Place For You Shelter in Pine City.
2. World Mission Sunday is coming up on the weekend of Oct. 18.
F. Cemetery - Rita reported as Gene was absent
1. Rita ordered new regulation signs online.
2. The Cemetery Committee is working on the "low" spots.

The meeting was adjourned.  Next meeting is January 15, 2015.
